Who Should Attend

This course is designed to provide a more thorough understanding of queries to students who possess a foundational knowledge of Access and/or relational database concepts. The course is intended for students who want to build queries that allow them to access specific data or make changes to their database tables using queries. This course can also be helpful for students who would like to improve their understanding of the use of queries written by others that they use in an existing database.

Course Objectives

    The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to create and work with queries in Access. Students will learn about the different types of queries and their uses, the basics of building select queries, the use of criteria and calculated fields in queries, and the use of action queries to update, add, and delete data from tables in the database. The lessons in this course also provide a foundational understanding of relationships and joins in databases and how joins affect query results.

  • Using Queries - Learn how to create a select query to view specific data from your database.
  • Working with Query Types - Learn how to use action queries to add, change, or delete data in your tables.
  • Filtering a Query with Criteria - Learn how to use expressions in a query to filter the data retrieved with a query.
  • Adding Calculations to Queries - Learn how to create fields using the expression builder and how to group data in a query to display totals in the query results.
  • Modifying Query Joins - Learn how to change the join type in a query.
  • Creating a Crosstab Query - Learn how to create a crosstab query to display a summary of your data.
